MLB: LA Dodgers 2, San Francisco 0

LOS ANGELES, July 30 (UPI) -- Jason Johnson tossed six shutout innings Tuesday en route to his first win since 2006 in a 2-0 LA Dodgers victory over the San Francisco Giants.

The 34-year-old diabetic journeyman (1-0), who spent last year playing in Japan, scattered five hits, didn't allow a walk and struck out three the same day a 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck the region. The victory, the Dodgers' fourth in five games, kept them within a game of National League West-leading Arizona.

James Loney drove in a run and scored on Casey Blake's double. Loney was thrown out at the plate but the umpires ruled he had scored because Giants left fielder Fred Lewis had bobbled the ball briefly out of play while making the transfer from his glove to his throwing hand before throwing it to the infield for the relay home

Matt Cain (6-9) gave up only two runs -- one earned -- on eight hits and no walks. He fanned eight.
