MLB: Chicago Cubs 19, Milwaukee 5

CHICAGO, May 1 (UPI) -- A pair of three-run homers by Geovany Soto highlighted a 17-hit attack Wednesday fueled the Chicago Cubs' 19-5 whipping of Milwaukee.

One night after the Brewers had produced 17 hits of their own, they surrendered a five-run inning and two six-run frames.

Ryan Dempster (4-0) was the beneficiary of the onslaught, allowing three runs on four hits over six innings.

The Cubs got to starter Jeff Suppan (1-1) for 11 hits and eight runs in 3 2/3.

Chicago sent 10 men to the plate in the first inning and six of the first seven batters reached base.

Derrek Lee doubled home a run and Aramis Ramirez doubled in two more before Soto hit his first homer of the game. Soto's other smash came as part of a five-run fourth.

The Cubs added six runs in the eighth, three of them coming home on a double by Ronny Cedeno.
