SAN FRANCISCO, April 11 (UPI) -- Kevin Correia threw 7 2/3 shutout innings Thursday, leading the San Francisco Giants to a 5-1 decision over St. Louis.

The Giants prevented the Cardinals from producing their best 10-game start to a season in 27 years.

Correia (1-1) allowed five hits and three relievers combined to give up a run on two hits. Brian Wilson came on in the ninth to record the last two outs and collect his second save.

St. Louis had won seven of its first nine games coming into this contest. The Cardinals had not won eight of their first 10 contests since the strike-shortened 1981 season.

With San Francisco already owning a 2-0 lead, Jose Castillo doubled in a run in the seventh and scored on a single by Rich Aurilia.

After opening the season by losing six out of seven games, the Giants have won three in a row.
