NHL: N.Y. Rangers 5, Philadelphia 4 (SO)

NEW YORK, March 2 (UPI) -- Brendan Shanahan and Nigel Dawes scored shootout goals for the New York Rangers Sunday in a 5-4 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

New York has won four straight games and seven of nine. The Rangers have beaten the Flyers in five of six meetings this season.

Shanahan hit a wrist shot and Dawse a backhander, giving the Rangers the advantage in the shootout. Philadelphia's Kimmo Timonen had his shootout attempt blocked and Jeff Parker failed with a shot that hit the left goal post.

Martin Straka had a goal and assist, and Fredrik Sjostrom, Ryan Callahan and Christian Backman each scored for New York in regulation.

Parker had a pair of goals, and Vinny Prospal and Braydon Coburn each tallied once for the Flyers.
