NBA: Charlotte 95, Boston 83

BOSTON, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Jason Richardson led an unlikely showing with 34 points Wednesday in carrying Charlotte to a 95-83 victory over Boston.

The Celtics lost for only the fourth time this season. They had won their nine previous games and had claimed 16 victories in 17 home outings.

The outcome was made even more improbable by the fact that Charlotte had lost its last 11 road games. It was just the second victory of the year for the Bobcats away from home.

Nazr Mohammed added 18 points for Charlotte, Raymond Felton had 16 and Gerald Wallace 15.

The Bobcats had a seven-point lead going into the final quarter and did not falter. With the home crowd brought to life by a dunk from Brian Scalabrine that cut the Boston deficit to five, Charlotte went on a six-point run.

Kevin Garnett led Boston with 24 points and Paul Pierce had 13.
