NHL: Montreal 4, Toronto 1

MONTREAL, Dec. 15 (UPI) -- Saku Koivu scored twice Saturday to help the Montreal Canadiens beat Toronto 4-1.

Koivu scored his sixth and seventh goals this season in the first and second periods to give Montreal a 2-0 lead. The winners never trailed.

Andrei Kostitsyn and Alexei Kovalev had one goal and one assist apiece. Christopher Higgins had two assists and goalie Carey Price stopped 28 of 29 shots for the Canadiens, who ended a six-game losing streak.

Kovalev extended his point streak to four games.

Boyd Devereaux scored Toronto's lone goal in the third to prevent Price's first shutout this season.

Goaltender Vesa Toskala allowed four goals on 25 shots for the Maple Leafs, who lost for only the second time in their last eight.

On the power play, both teams went 0 for 3.
