Grossman will start for Bears

LAKE FOREST, Ill., Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Rex Grossman is back at starting quarterback for the Chicago Bears, Coach Lovie Smith announced Wednesday.

Grossman, who lost his starting job in the third week of the season to Brian Griese, returned Sunday when Griese was injured against Oakland. Grossman tossed a 59-yard touchdown pass to Bernard Berrian in the Bears' 17-6 victory over the Raiders.

"I like the way he came in (against Oakland), " Smith said. "He gave us a boost. We do everything based on what gives us the best opportunity to win this week and that's what we're doing."

Grossman called it "another great opportunity" to "get a chance to play with these guys and hopefully get things rolling and see what we can do."

Griese sprained his left shoulder and missed practice Wednesday. If he is unable to play against Seattle Sunday, Kyle Orton will be the backup quarterback.
