NHL: Ottawa 2, Boston 1 (SO)

BOSTON, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Daniel Alfredsson scored the deciding goal in a shootout Sunday night, as the Ottawa Senators beat Boston, 2-1.

The contest was tied, 1-1, after regulation. Boston's Chuck Kobasew scored at 4:13 of the first period and Ottawa's Antoine Vermette tied it at 4:01 of the third.

Ottawa goaltender Martin Gerber stopped 21-of-22 shots in regulation, and then turned aside both Boston chances in the shootout.

The Senators have won seven straight games and are off to a franchise-best 12-1-0 start.

Boston goalie Tim Thomas yielded one goal on 36 Ottawa shots.

The Bruins have dropped three of four, including both games this weekend. They lost Saturday night's game between the teams, 3-2.

On the power play, Ottawa was 0-for-7, and Boston was 0-for-3.
