NHL: Philadelphia 4, Atlanta 0

PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Martin Biron made 31 saves Tuesday to garner his first shutout of the season as the Philadelphia Flyers beat the winless Atlanta Thrashers 4-0.

Biron got his 19th career shutout but his first in a Flyers uniform for Philadelphia, which has won four of its first five games to begin the year. The Flyers did not win their fourth game last season until Nov. 15.

Jeff Carter had a goal and an assist. Mike Richards, Sami Kapanen and Randy Jones each had a goal and Joffrey Lupul had two assists in the victory.

Johan Hedberg allowed four goals on 33 shots for the Thrashers, who have lost six in a row to start the season.
