MOSCOW, Oct. 12 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Nikolay Davydenko Friday earned his seventh semifinal berth of the year with a straight-set win at the $1 million Kremlin Cup in Moscow.

Davydenko, who has moved up to fourth in the world rankings, defeated Igor Andreev 7-5, 7-5 in the quarterfinals. He is one match away from his third Kremlin Cup title match in four years.

That match pits Davydenko against Janko Tipsarevic, who stopped Radek Stepanek 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in his quarterfinal Friday at the indoor tournament.

Saturday’s other semifinal sends fourth-seeded Paul-Henri Mathieu against Michael Berrer. Mathieu swept past Florent Serra 6-3, 6-3 and Berrer moved on after No. 8-seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber, complaining of a back injury, retired after losing the first set 6-3 in the quarterfinals.

Mathieu is looking to regain the title he won in 2002.
