MLB: Chi. White Sox 8, Minnesota 3

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- Jerry Owens had five hits and three RBI Saturday afternoon as the Chicago White Sox beat Minnesota, 8-3.

Owens’ big day complimented veteran slugger Jim Thome, who hit his 504th career homer, a solo blast in the third.

Thome added an RBI single in the sixth.

Darin Erstad had three hits, one a solo homer in the fifth.

Three players had two hits, and Jose Uribe knocked in a run as the White Sox won for the third time in their last four games.

Winner Javier Vazquez (14-8) gave up two earned runs and five hits in seven innings with two walks and 11 strikeouts.

Minnesota’s Jason Kubel hit a two-run homer in the sixth.

Luis Rodriguez had two hits and one RBI, and was the only player with more than one hit for the Twins, who have dropped six of 10.

The losing pitcher was Scott Baker (9-9).
