KANSAS CITY, Mo., Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Zack Greinke and Joakim Soria combined on a two-hit shutout Thursday afternoon as Kansas City beat the Chicago White Sox, 3-0.
Kansas City scored twice in the sixth on a double by Tony F. Pena and a sacrifice fly by Estaban German, and once in the eighth on Pena's sacrifice fly.
Greinke (7-6) gave up two hits in eight scoreless innings with no walks and 10 strikeouts, while Soria earned his 16th save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth.
Greinke retired the first nine batters he faced.
Joey Gathright and John Buck had two hits apiece for the Royals, who split the four-game series.
Jerry Owens and Jose Uribe both had one hit for the White Sox, who have split their last 10 games.
Losing pitcher Jon Garland (9-13) yielded three earned runs and six hits while going the distance.
He did not walk a batter and fanned four.
