MLB: Kansas City 3, Chicago WSox 2

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Billy Butler's two-run single capped a three-run first inning Tuesday as Kansas City Royals slipped by the Chicago White Sox 3-2.

Kansas City's Gil Meche (9-12) went seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits. Jason Smith tripled for Royals.

Josh Fields doubled twice for the White Sox, who had won four of their previous five games.

Chicago pitcher Gavin Floyd (1-4) worked six innings, allowing three runs -- all in the first -- on nine hits.

The Royals got all of their runs before Floyd recorded an out. David DeJesus and Mark Grudzielanek each singled, Ross Gload doubled and Butler singled for a 3-0 lead. Floyd struck out the next three batters.
