Hantuchova wins, Bartoli upset

STANFORD, Calif., July 26 (UPI) -- Daniela Hantuchova breezed into the quarterfinals but Marion Bartoli was bounced out of the $600,000 Bank of the West Classic Wednesday.

Hantuchova, the third-seeded Slovakian, reeled off a 6-4, 6-2 victory over China's Shuai Peng in the second round. But France's Bartoli, a Wimbledon runner-up who was seeded second, was surprised by American Lilia Osterloh, who dropped the first set 5-7 but stormed back to win the next two 6-4, 6-3.

Slovenian Katarina Srebotnik, the seventh seed, defeated Russian Maria Kirilenko 6-0, 7-6 (7-5) to advance while eighth-seeded Austrian Sybille Bammer eliminated American Meilen Tu 6-4, 6-2.

The tourney's top seed is Russian Anna Chakvetadze, who was last week's champion in Cincinnati.

Belgian Kim Clijsters, who retired earlier this season, beat Swiss Patty Schnyder in last year's Bank of the West finale.
