KANSAS CITY, Mo., July 25 (UPI) -- Home runs by Melky Cabrera, Alex Rodriguez and Hideki Matsui Wednesday boosted the New York Yankees to a 7-1 victory over Kansas City.
It was New York's sixth straight win.
Cabrera hit a two-run homer in the second, Rodriguez delivered a two-run blast in the eighth and Matsui had a solo shot in the same inning.
A 13-hit attack for New York made things easy for Mike Mussina (5-7), who picked up the win by giving up one run on six hits over 5 2/3. He had lost four of his previous five decisions and had been roughed up by Tampa Bay last Friday.
Gil Meche lost for the first time since June 9, a span of eight starts. Meche (7-7) allowed five runs on nine hits over 7 1/3.
New York has scored 70 runs over its last six games.
