Tigers catcher suspended for one game

NEW YORK, July 14 (UPI) -- Detroit Tigers catcher Ivan Rodriguez has been suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount for an outburst during Thursday's 3-2 loss to Seattle.

Rodriguez was in the Tigers' lineup in Seattle Saturday night after appealing the penalty, which was imposed for his tirade directed at home plate umpire Mike Winters.

Rodriguez got into an argument with Winters in the bottom of the fourth, when he contended he was interfered with when trying to throw out Adrian Beltre stealing.

Rodriguez said Seattle's Yuniesky Betancourt needlessly got in his way when, after swinging, he stepped across the plate to keep his balance.

During the argument Rodriguez bumped Winters, resulting in automatic ejection.
