Pettersen wins first major title

HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., June 10 (UPI) -- Suzann Pettersen had four birdies on the back nine Sunday for a 5-under 67 and her first major title, the McDonald's LPGA Championship at Havre de Grace, Md.

Pettersen had the lead going down the stretch of the year's first major on the LPGA Tour, the Kraft Nabisco Championship, but lost four shots over the final three holes and handed the victory to Morgan Pressel.

This time she maintained her composure and two-putted the final hole from 30 feet to defeat Karrie Webb by a shot.

Pettersen had a 72-hole total of 14-under 274 over the Bulle Rock course. Webb (67) was runner-up in the tournament for the second straight year.

"Last time I was so close," Pettersen said. "To come here and win and feel the pressure coming down the stretch, it's just amazing to stand here and be by myself on top."

Rookie Na On Min (70), playing in her first major event, finished third at 276, while Lindsey Wright (66) was fourth at 278.
