MLB: Boston 6, Texas 5

ARLINGTON, Texas, May 27 (UPI) -- Jason Varitek hit a three-run homer Sunday afternoon, as the Boston Red Sox beat Texas, 6-5, for their first three-game sweep in Texas in almost 34 years.

J.D. Drew went for 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Dustin Pedroia hit a solo homer; Kevin Youkilis went 2-for-5 with a run scored to extend his hitting streak to 19 games; and Mike Lowell had one run, two hits and one RBI for the AL East-leading Red Sox -- who have won four of five.

Winner Joel Pineiro (1-0) pitched 1 2/3 hitless relief innings.

Hideki Okajima recorded his third save of the season.

Mark Teixeira hit a three-run homer and an RBI single. Ian Kinsler also hit an RBI single, while Kenny Lofton had a run and two hits for the Rangers, who suffered their fifth straight loss.

The losing pitcher was Akinori Otsuka (1-1).
