Top seeds tumble in Austrian tennis

PRTSCHACH, Austria, May 24 (UPI) -- Nikolay Davydenko and Andy Roddick, the tournament's top two seeds, were upset Thursday at the Hypo Group Tennis International in Austria.

Davydenko, the No. 1 seed, had his attempt at a third consecutive Hypo title derailed by Juan Monaco, who claimed a 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4 victory in Thursday's quarterfinals. Second-seeded Roddick dropped a straight-set decision to qualifier Gael Monfils, 7-5, 6-3.

Lleyton Hewitt dispatched Diego Hartfield in his quarterfinal and draws Monfils in Friday's semifinals.

Luis Horna also earned a semifinal berth in a 7-6 (7-4), 6-7 (2-7), 6-1 decision over Albert Montanes. Horna plays Monaco in the semifinals.
