Oakland players share AL weekly honor

NEW YORK, May 14 (UPI) -- Oakland A's teammates Just Cust and Dan Johnson were selected to share the American League player of the week award announced Monday.

Cust hit .348 for the week, with eight hits gong for extra bases. He had five home runs and drove him 13 runs. His slugging percentage was a robust 1.043. He has home runs in four consecutive games, including a walk-off shot in the bottom of the ninth Sunday against Cleveland.

Johnson batted .545 with three home runs and three doubles. He knocked in six runs and scored 10 while building a slugging percentage of 1.091. Johnson owns a 13-game hitting streak.

Others considered for the AL player of the week award, for the week ended May 13, were LA Angels Gary Matthews Jr., Texas's Mark Teixeira and Cleveland's Fausto Carmona.
