MLB: LA Angels 5, Texas 3

ANAHEIM, Calif., April 4 (UPI) -- Garret Anderson had two runs, two hits and one RBI Wednesday afternoon as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim topped the Texas Rangers, 5-3.

Anderson's RBI double was a key hit in a four-run first inning, as the Angels completed a season-opening three-game sweep.

The Angels' Gary Matthews Jr. and Casey Kotchman both went 2-for-4, and winner Ervin Santana (1-0) gave up four hits and two runs in seven innings with one walk and six strikeouts, as the Angels opened 3-0 for the fourth time in club history and the second time in four seasons.

Matthews scored a run while Kotchman had an RBI.

Michael Young had two hits, one run and one RBI for Texas. Gerald Laird and Brad Wilkerson hit sacrifice flies, and loser Brandon McCarthy (0-1) was touched for five runs -- three earned -- and 10 hits in six innings for the Rangers.

He issued one walk and no strikeouts.
