Detroit forged a 3-0 lead by scoring twice in the second period on goals by Todd Bertuzzi in the first and Kirk Maltby and Kris Draper in the second.

In the third period rally, Dallas got goals from Brenden Morrow (power play), Mike Ribeiro and Philippe Boucher -- who scored with 2:42 left in regulation to create the extra time.

Ribeiro also had one assist, and Mike Smith stopped 31 of 34 shots for the Stars, who moved two points ahead of San Jose and Minnesota -- both deadlocked at 98 points -- for the fifth seed in the Western Conference.

Draper had one assist, while Dominik Hasek stopped 21 of 24 shots for the Red Wings, who are tied with idle Nashville at 105 points in the West.
