NHL: Dallas 4, Calgary 2

DALLAS, March 16 (UPI) -- Mike Modano had a goal and an assist Thursday night to help Dallas top the Calgary Flames, 4-2.

His 16th goal of the season at 9:25 of the first period staked Dallas to a 1-0 lead, which grew to 2-0 on a goal by Junior Lessard before the period was over.

Matthew Lombardi scored at 3:59 of the second to draw Calgary within 2-1, but Niklas Hagman would make it 3-1 at 14:21 of the second period.

Calgary's Alex Tanguay and Dallas' Jere Lehtinen would trade goals in the third to cap the scoring.

Marty Turco stopped 30 of 32 shots for the Stars, who are fifth in the Western Conference playoff chase.

Tanguay also had an assist; and Jamie McLennan made 23 saves on 26 shots for the Flames, who lost four of their last five games.

Despite the loss, Calgary is eighth in the West with 84 points.
