NHL: Boston 5, New Jersey 3

BOSTON, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Patrice Bergeron scored two goals Thursday night as Boston beat the New Jersey Devils, 5-3.

The Bruins had a 2-0 lead in the first 90 seconds on goals by Bergeron and Brad Boyes, but Patrik Elias and Jamie Langenbrunner both scored for the Devils before the period ended to make the score, 2-2.

Petr Tenkrat and Michael Rupp traded goals in the second period to knot the game at 3-3.

A power-play goal by Brad Stuart gave Boston a 4-3 lead at 2:17, and Bergeron scored an empty net goal.

Boyes had two assists, and Tim Thomas gave up three goals on 29 shots for the Bruins, who broke a two-game skid.

Scott Clemmensen allowed four goals on 44 shots for the Devils, who have lost two games in a row after a five-game winning streak.

On the power play, Boston went 3-for-7, and New Jersey was 1-for-4.
