Hong leads LPGA event in S. Korea

GYEONGJU, South Korea, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- Jin Joo Hong has a three-stroke lead after two rounds of the LPGA's KOLON-Hana Bank Championship golf tournament in Gyeongju, South Korea.

Hong -- one of 12 players in the field this week from the Korean LPGA Tour -- took the lead with a 5-under 67 in Saturday's second round. Through 36 holes, her score is 9-under 135.

"I was just trying to have a good time," Hong said through a translator. "I was lucky to have a good score. This is my first time playing in an LPGA event and I just want to win."

First-round leader Joo Mi Kim (73) fell into a second-place tie with Karine Icher (71) and amateur Mi Jung Hur (70) at 5-under 139.

Paula Creamer (72), the highest ranked player in the field, shares fifth place at 4-under 140 with Suzann Pettersen (71), Jeong Jang (72) and defending champion Jee Young Lee (73).
