Mauresmo moves on at Zurich Open

ZURICH, Switzerland, Oct. 18 (UPI) -- World No. 1 Amelie Mauresmo overcame a shoulder injury in posting a victory in the second-round of the $1.34 million Zurich Open women's tennis tournament.

Mauresmo, from France, had a slight shoulder problem during her 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 win Wednesday over Australia's Samantha Stosur. She next faces Slovak Daniela Hantuchova, who defeated Japan's Ai Sugiyama 7-6 (9-7), 6-2 in her second-round match.

Switzerland's Martina Hingis also won Wednesday, defeating French wild-card entrant Nathalie Dechy, 6-3, 6-3. Russia's Maria Kirilenko advanced when Tatiana Golovin retired in the first set with an ankle sprain.

The Zurich Open continues through the week with the eventual winner, to be decided Sunday, talking home $196,900.
