MLB: Minnesota 5, Chi. White Sox 1

MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Torii Hunter hit a two-run homer Sunday to help Minnesota beat the Chicago White Sox, 5-1, and wrap up its fourth American League Central title in five seasons.

With two hits, Minnesota's Joe Mauer became the first catcher in major league history to win the AL batting crown.

Both Jason Bartlett and Michael Cuddyer had two hits and one RBI; and Justin Morneau hit an RBI double for the Twins (96-66), who won six of their final 10 games and dethroned Chicago, which won the division last season.

Winner Carlos Silva (11-15) allowed one run and five hits in 5 1/3 innings with two walks and three strikeouts.

Ross Gload hit an RBI groundout; and Pablo Ozuna and Rob Mackowiak both had two hits for the White Sox (90-72), who failed to qualify for the post-season despite finishing 18 games over .500.

The losing pitcher was Javier Vazquez (11-12).
