LUXEMBOURG CITY, Luxembourg, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- Alona Bondarenko Sunday won the title match at the FORTIS Championships in Luxembourg City, Luxembourg.

The scores were 6-3, 6-2.

The 26-year-old Bondarenko earned a first prize check of $95,500 and avenged a loss to Schiavone in the first round of this year's French Open.

Her best previous finish this year was a semifinal loss to Martina Sucha at an event in Casablanca, Morocco in May.

The fifth-seeded Schiavone helped Italy win a Fed Cup title two weeks ago, but has lost three title matches this year.

Including Sunday, she also lost to Justine Henin-Hardenne in the final at the Medibank International in Sydney, Australia in January and was beaten by Nadia Petrova for the Amelia Island (Fla.) championship in April.
