Woods leads at halfway point of Amex

CHANDLER'S CROSS, England, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Tiger Woods shot a 7-under-par 64 Friday, amassing a 5-stroke lead at the halfway point of the World Golf Championships in England.

Woods, who had a 63 in Thursday's first round of what is also known as the American Express Championship, is 36 holes from running his streak of consecutive victories in stroke-play events to six. Woods has previously won six consecutive tournaments, a mark that is second to Byron Nelson's 11 straight wins in 1945.

"I'm off to a good start so far but, again, we're only at the halfway point," said Woods. "On top of that, with the conditions the way they are and the greens as smooth and soft as they are, you are going to have to keep making birdies."

Jim Furyk shot 6-under 65 Friday to move into a three-way tie for second with Stewart Cink, who had a 67 Friday, and David Howell (66). They are 10-under 132 -- five strokes back of Woods.

Padraig Harrington shot 69 in the second round and is in fifth place at minus-9, followed by Brett Quigley, whose 64 Friday gave his a 36-hole total of 8-under-par 134.
