OAKLAND, Calif., Sept. 14 (UPI) -- With their next 2006 regular-season home run, the Chicago White Sox will set a team record for home runs in a season.
Joe Crede could give the White Sox four players with at least 30 home runs in a single season for the first time. He would join Jermaine Dye (41), Jim Thome (39) and Paul Konerko (32).
Already, the Sox have set a major league record by clubbing at least 200 home runs as a team in seven straight seasons.
If Thome hits one, it would give the White Sox their first pair of hitters with 40 home runs in the same season.
"We have guys at the top and the bottom who can do damage," Thome said on the team's Web site. "We have speed, guys who can hit and run or hit with power, whatever it may be. That's unique with our club."
If Crede hits a homer, he joins the single-season 30-home run, 100-RBI club.
The White Sox next game is at Oakland Friday night.
