FONTANA, Calif., Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Kasey Kahne the Sony HD 500 at the California Speedway Sunday night to complete a weekend sweep and stay in the hunt for the Nextel Cup.
His No.9 Evernham Dodge crossed the finish line 3.428 seconds ahead of Dale Earnhardt Jr., giving Kahne his series-leading fifth victory of the season, and the sixth of his Nextel Cup career.
"It was an unbelievable night," said Kahne. "These guys fought back with a great pit stop and we were really fast all night. I can't thank the team enough. We still have hope."
Clint Bowyer, Carl Edwards and Jeff Gordon completed the top-five.
The win left Kahne 30 points behind Jeff Burton for 10th place with one race left in the regular season -- set for Saturday Sept. 9 at the Richmond International Raceway.
