MLB: Atlanta 3, Philadelphia 1 (11)

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Tony Pena scored the winning run Sunday night in the top of the 11th inning on a throwing error by catcher Carlos Ruiz as Atlanta beat Philadelphia, 3-1.

The win gave the Braves a doubleheader split after the Phillies won the opener, 8-7, when Ryan Howard hit three homers and knocked in four runs.

In the nightcap, Pete Orr hit a run-scoring single, and the Braves (65-71) scored a run on a wild pitch by reliever Geoff Geary, as they won for the sixth time in their last 10 games.

In relief, the winner was Chad Paronto (2-2).

Bob Wickman recorded his 12th save.

Pat Burrell hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth, and Howard had two of the five hits for the Phillies (69-68), who have split their last four games.

Geary (7-1) took the loss after picking up the victory in Game One.
