MLB: LA Dodgers 1, San Francisco 0

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Russell Martin's leadoff homer in the bottom of the 10th gave the Los Angeles Dodgers a 1-0 victory over San Francisco Sunday night.

Maddux gave up just two hits and no walks, striking out four over eight scoreless innings. Both hits came in the first inning, and then Maddux retired 22 consecutive batters before being lifted for pinch-hitter James Loney in the bottom of the eighth.

Dodgers closer Takashi Saito (5-2) got the win, pitching a scoreless 10th for the Dodgers -- who won their fourth straight game and their 15th out of 16.

Schmidt also went eight scoreless innings, giving up just five hits while striking out nine and issuing one walk. Vinnie Chulk (1-1) took the loss after serving up Martin's game winner, as the Giants lost their fifth straight game.

The Dodgers lead the second-place San Diego Padres by 1 ½ games in the National League West.
