Davydenko wins the final at Sopot

SOPOT, Poland, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Russia's Nikolay Davydenko was Sunday's winner in the final of the Orange Prokom Open Tennis Tournament in Sopot, Poland.

The top seed overcame unseeded Florian Mayer of Germany, 7-6 (8-6), 5-7, 6-4. The victory gave the 25-year-old Davydenko -- who won his second title of the season -- nine wins in his last 11 matches.

"It was a very tough final for me today," Davydenko said. "I will only have one day to prepare (for the Rogers Masters at Toronto), but winning this tournament should help."

The 22-year-old Mayer -- a runner-up at this event in 2005 -- is still searches for his first career title.

"I was fighting the whole match," Mayer said. "I had chances to win the first set (but) at the end he played some great shots, was a little bit more experienced and he was the better player."
