MLB: Minnesota 8, Kansas City 5 (10 inn.)

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Joe Mauer and Michael Cuddyer hit solo home runs Friday night to help Minnesota beat Kansas City, 8-5, in 10 innings.

Torii Hunter hit a two-run single; Justin Morneau had two hits and three RBI; Cuddyer scored three times; Mauer scored twice; and Jason Bartlett, who scored the winning run on a wild pitch, had two runs and two hits for the Twins (63-45), who have 38 wins in their last 50 games to climb within two games of Boston for the American League wild card.

The winner was Denys Reyes (3-0). Joe Nathan recorded his 23rd save.

John Buck hit a two-run single; Emil Brown had two runs, two hits and one RBI; while Estaban German and Ryan Shealy each had an RBI for the Royals (38-71), who blew a two-run lead in the ninth and a three-run lead in the 10th.

The loser was Scott Dohmann (0-1).
