Davydenko advances at Sopot

SOPOT, Poland, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Nikolay Davydenko of Russia Thursday advanced to the quarterfinals of the Orange Prokom Open Tennis Tournament at Sopot, Poland.

In a delayed second-round match Thursday, he beat Argentina's Juan Monaco, 7-5, 6-7 (7-9), 6-1.

Florian Mayer of Germany topped No. 2 seed and former Sopot champion Tommy Robredo from Spain, 6-2, 6-4. No. 5 Juan Ignacio Chela beat qualifier and fellow Argentine Martin Vassallo Arguello, 6-2, 6-1.

Eighth-seeded Agustin Calleri of Argentina beat Raemon Sluiter of the Netherlands, 6-4, 6-4. And wild card Michal Przysiezny of Poland beat Jiri Vanek of the Czech Republic, 6-3, 6-1.

In Friday's round of eight, Davydenko faces Berlocq; Mayer meets Chela; Calleri's opponent will be Przysiezny; and No. 7 Filippo Volandri of Italy plays Oliver Marach of Austria.
