ANAHEIM, Calif., Aug. 2 (UPI) -- An RBI single by Mark Kotsay in the top of the eighth inning Wednesday afternoon gave Oakland a 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels.
Frank Thomas hit a sacrifice fly; a run scored on a wild pitch by Angels' starter Kelvim Escobar; and Jason Kendall had a run and two hits for the Athletics (57-51), who have four wins in their last five games and lead the American League West by 1 1/2 games over the Angels.
The winner was reliever Kiko Calero (3-1). Huston Street recorded his 23rd save.
Juan Rivera hit a sacrifice fly, Howie Kendrick hit a run-scoring single, and Garret Anderson had two hits for the Angels (55-52), who have dropped two of their last three games.
The losing pitcher was reliever Scot Shields (6-7).
