MLB: NY Yankees 5, Toronto 1

NEW YORK, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Bernie Williams had a three-run double in the fourth inning Tuesday to power the New York Yankees to a 5-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays.

New York's new right fielder Bobby Abreu was 0-for-3, but scored a run after drawing a walk in the Yankees' four-run fourth.

The Yankees won for the sixth time in seven games and moved into a virtual tie, two percentage points ahead of Boston, at the top of the American League East after the Red Sox fell to Cleveland 6-3.

Alex Rodriguez was 2-of-4 with two runs batted in while Derek Jeter was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

Jaret Wright (7-6) went five innings for New York and allowed just one run on five hits.
