MLB: N.Y. Yankees 6, Chi. White Sox 4

NEW YORK, July 16 (UPI) -- Alex Rodriguez had a two-run homer Sunday as the New York Yankees posted a 6-4 victory over the Chicago White Sox.

Derek Jeter homered and Jason Giambi also drove in a run for the Yankees, who have won seven of their last eight contests to move within three games of the White Sox in the American League wild-card standings.

Jaret Wright (6-5), pitching 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks.

Mariano Rivera had a two-inning save to become the fourth pitcher in history with 400 saves. He joins Lee Smith (478), Trevor Hoffman (460) and John Franco (424).

A.J. Pierzynski homered and Tadahito Iguchi went 4-for-5 for the White Sox, who were swept for the first time this season.

Freddy Garcia (10-6) gave up six runs on nine hits with a walk and three strikeouts for the loss.
