MLB: N.Y. Yankees 6, Chi. WhiteSox 5

NEW YORK, July 14 (UPI) -- Melky Cabrera's RBI single highlighted a three-run eighth as the New York Yankees beat the White Sox, 6-5, Friday night at Yankee Stadium.

Sox ace and former Yankee All-Star Jose Contreras (9-1) gave up four runs on seven hits in seven-plus innings in losing his first game this season, and ending a 17-game personal winning streak.

Alex Rodriguez had two hits and scored a run, and Aaron Guiel homered for the Yankees, who have won five of their last six games.

Joe Crede stroked a two-run homer for the Sox and Juan Uribe had two RBI.

Yankee Kyle Farnsworth pitched a scoreless eighth to improve to 3-4. Mariano Rivera surrendered two runs in the ninth after the Sox loaded the bases on three straight singles, but held on to earn his 20th save.
