Dodd wins the European Open

KILDARE, Ireland, July 9 (UPI) -- Stephen Dodd of Wales Sunday was a two-shot winner at the European Open Golf Tournament in Kildare, Ireland.

His total was 9-under 279 after an even-par 70 on Sunday.

Spain's Jose Manuel Lara (74), who had a one-shot lead after the third round, tied for second with England's Anthony Wall (73) at 7-under 281.

"It's been a pretty poor start to the year for me and winning was not really what I expected, but golf's golf and you never know what to expect," said Dodd, who won for the second time on the European Tour. "Patience was a big factor."

There was a five-way tie for fourth at 6-under 282, including Ireland's Paul McGinley (69), Lee Westwood (70), Graeme Storm (70), and Simon Khan (73) of England and Jeev Milkha Singh (70) of India.

Scotland's Colin Montgomerie (71) was among four players tied for ninth at 5-under 283.
