MLB: NY Yankees 13, Boston 5

NEW YORK, June 5 (UPI) -- Andy Phillips and Jason Giambi each hit three-run homers during a seven-run second inning Monday as the New York Yankees routed the Boston Red Sox, 13-5.

Phillips has a seven-game hitting streak during which he is batting .467 with three homers and 11 runs batted in.

Robinson Cano had a pair of hits and drove in two runs and Melky Cabrera scored three runs and had two runs batted in for the Yankees, who moved in front of Boston by a half-game for first place in the American League East.

Giambi, who's got four homers in his last five games, returned after sitting out the last two contests with a stomach virus.

Mike Mussina (8-1) gave up five runs on eight hits and two walks in six innings.

Mike Lowell went 2-for-2 with two RBI and Trot Nixon had a pair of hits and scored three runs for the Red Sox.
