Bonds sits out game with sore back

MIAMI, May 30 (UPI) -- San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds didn't start Tuesday's game against the Florida Marlins due to a sore back.

Bonds went 1-for-4 in Monday's series opener, a day after he hit the 715th homer of his career to pass Babe Ruth for second place on the all-time list. Bonds is 40 homers shy of Hank Aaron (755)for first place.

Bonds is hitting just .254 this season with seven homers and 20 RBI. He has started 17 of San Francisco's last 19 games. He has hit safely in seven of his last eight, going 9-for-25 (.360) in that span. Despite his low batting average, Bonds leads the majors with a .482 on-base percentage.

Mark Sweeney started in left field Tuesday in place of Bonds.
