MLB: Detroit 1, Cincinnati 0

DETROIT, May 21 (UPI) -- Pinch-hitter Placido Polanco drove in the winning run in the eighth inning Sunday as the Detroit Tigers beat the Cincinnati Reds, 1-0.

Brandon Inge scored the winning run and Chris Shelton had two hits for the Tigers, who have won nine of their last 10 games -- including two of three against Cincinnati over the weekend.

Fernando Rodney (3-1) notched his second straight win in relief while Todd Jones earned his 13th save of the season -- and his 155th as a Tiger, setting a franchise record.

Tigers starter Nate Robertson allowed just three hits with five walks and seven strikeouts over 7 1/3 innings, but did not figure in the decision.

Adam Dunn, Edwin Encarnacion and Ken Griffey Jr. each had a hit for the Reds, who have lost seven of their last nine. Felipe Lopez went hitless, ending a 14-game hitting streak.

Aaron Harang (5-3) took the loss for the Reds, despite allowing just one run on five hits with nine strikeouts over eight innings.
