MLB: N.Y. Yankees 8, Texas 5

ARLINGTON, Texas, May 7 (UPI) -- Hideki Matsui hit a three-run homer in a five-run fifth inning Sunday to help the New York Yankees beat Texas, 8-5, for their fifth straight victory.

The win was the 1,000th for Joe Torre as the Yankees' manager.

Matsui had two hits and walked three times.

Bernie Williams and Kelly Stinnett each had two hits and two RBI, Robinson Cano had two hits and one run, and Alex Rodriguez had two hits and two runs for the Yankees, who improved to 18-11.

Winner Chien-Ming Wang (2-1) gave up three runs and seven hits over six innings.

Mark Teixeira had a run and two hits, and Hank Blalock hit a two-run single for the Rangers (17-15), who had a six-game winning streak before getting swept by the visitors.

The loser was Robinson Tejeda (1-1).

Texas has dropped its last eight games against the Yankees.
