NBA: New Jersey 96, Indiana 90

INDIANAPOLIS, May 4 (UPI) -- Richard Jefferson scored a game-high 30 points Thursday night as New Jersey beat Indiana, 96-90, to take their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series, 4-2.

Jefferson also had six rebounds and four assists.

Vince Carter had 24 points, five rebounds, seven assists and two steals; and Nenad Krstic had 17 points, four rebounds and two steals for the Nets, who will face either Miami or Chicago in the conference semifinals.

For the Pacers, Anthony Johnson had 40 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals; Jermaine O'Neal added 21 points and six rebounds; and Danny Grainger had 13 points and five rebounds.

The Pacers again played without star forward Peja Stojakovic, who also missed three other games in this series -- all Indiana losses -- because of a right-knee injury.
