MLB: Detroit 5, Cleveland 1

CLEVELAND, April 14 (UPI) -- Brandon Inge hit two home runs Friday night as the Detroit Tigers beat Cleveland, 5-1.

Inge, Chris Shelton and Carlos Guillen all had two hits for the Tigers (6-4).

Detroit got a masterful effort from veteran left-hander Kenny Rogers, who surrendered only one run and seven hits in eight innings with three walks and five strikeouts. Rogers (2-1) signed with Detroit as a free agent in the off-season.

Jason Michaels, Victor Martinez and Casey Blake each had two hits. The Indians' lone run scored when Eduardo Perez grounded into a double play in the sixth.

Starter and loser Jake Westbrook (2-1) gave up five runs and nine hits over six innings with no walks and four strikeouts.

Both clubs are 6-4. Detroit broke a four-game slide while Cleveland has lost its last three games.
