MLB: Detroit 10, Texas 6

ARLINGTON, Texas, April 6 (UPI) -- Magglio Ordonez and Chris Shelton both hit two home runs Thursday night as the Detroit Tigers blasted the Texas Rangers, 10-6.

Brandon Inge led off the contest with a homer; Craig Monroe and Marcus Thames also hit round-trippers and Ordonez finished with three hits, three RBI and two runs scored for the Tigers in the opener of the four-game weekend series.

Winning pitcher Nate Robertson (1-0) gave up eight hits and three runs over 5 1/3 innings with no walks and four strikeouts.

The seven homers by the Tigers were one shy of a franchise-record, set June 20, 2000 in an 18-6 win at Toronto.

Michael Young was 3-for-5 with three RBI; Ian Kinsler homered for one of his three hits and Mark Teixeira had three hits and an RBI for the Rangers.

Losing pitcher R.A. Dickey (0-1) tied a post-1900 major league record by giving up six homers.
