NEW YORK, April 5 (UPI) -- A two-run homer by Jose Guillen in the 10th inning Wednesday night helped Washington beat the New York Mets, 9-5.
Nick Johnson added a three-run homer; Ryan Zimmerman hit the first home run of his career to force extra innings in the ninth; Royce Clayton also drove in two runs; and in relief, Chad Cordero, normally a closer picked up the win after Felix Rodriguez worked a scoreless bottom of the 10th inning for the Nationals (1-1), who won their first game of the season.
Cordero has not allowed an earned run in 18 2/3 career innings against the Mets.
Carlos Delgado, who had two hits; hit a two-run homer; while Xavier Nady added a solo shot or the Mets (1-1).
New York starter Brian Bannister allowed on three hits and two runs in six innings.
Mets'closer Billy Wagner allowed Zimmerman's blast.
