NHL: San Jose 6, Colorado 5

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 20 (UPI) -- San Jose's Patrick Marleau scored two goals to help edge the Sharks past the visiting Colorado Avalanche, 6-5, Sunday night.

Alyn McCauley tallied the game-winner late in the third period. Jonathan Cheechoo scored his 42nd goal of the season. Tom Preissing and Scott Hannan also scored a goal apiece for the Sharks. Goaltender Evgeni Nabokov made 24 saves for San Jose, which has won five of its last six games.

For Colorado, Ian Laperriere scored two goals and added an assist; Pierre Turgeon had a goal and an assist. Milan Hejduk and John-Michael Liles both added a goal apiece for the Avalanche. Goalie Peter Budaj stopped 27 shots for Colorado.
